Taylor the River Otter
Meet Taylor, our new Mascot!
In honor of Library Card Sign-Up Month, we are otterly excited to introduce you to a new member of the Cuyahoga Falls Library team: Taylor the River Otter!
Taylor is named after the library’s founders, William and Margaretta Taylor. Our library was incorporated in 1911 as the William A. and Margaretta Taylor Memorial Association, and the name was later changed to the Taylor Memorial Library. In 2004, the name was updated to Cuyahoga Falls Library.
Why Taylor? Why a river otter? The library felt it was important to continue honoring the Taylor legacy with this nod to our history. It is also an acknowledgment of the improved health and vitality of the Cuyahoga River with the return of real river otters to our community. And, of course, Cuyahoga Falls Library is a River of Knowledge.
About Taylor
Taylor is new in town. His family, including grand-otters William and Margaretta, recently moved back to the Cuyahoga River. Taylor loves to read and visit Cuyahoga Falls Library. He calls it, “The River of Knowledge.”
Taylor's hobbies include swimming, reading, and fishing. His special ability is he can close his ears and nostrils underwater, to help with swimming.
Taylor is curious, playful, and fun. He loves meeting new friends at the Cuyahoga Falls Library!

To celebrate, during the month of September, you can get your own limited-edition Taylor the River Otter sticker! Here’s how:
- Sign up for a library card. Or (if it’s been a while) stop in to renew your expired card. Cards “expire” or go inactive after three years without use. All we need is a photo ID and a copy of your current address to renew your card!
- Adults who check out at least 5 items at once will receive the vinyl “I otter be reading” Taylor sticker, perfect for water bottles, laptops, and more.
- Kids who check out at least one item (on either their own card or their guardians’ cards) will receive the circle “A place like no otter” sticker.
- Teens who check out at least one item can pick the sticker of their choice.

Merchandise FAQs
- Do merchandise sales benefit the library? Yes. A portion of each purchase benefits the library, supporting our programs, collections, services, and more.
- Are youth sizes available? Yes. Youth long and short-sleeve tees are available in the “A Place Like No Otter” collection.
- Are there more color and style combinations available? Yes. There is a variety of apparel options, including short and long-sleeve tees, crewneck sweatshirts, and hoodies. Each is offered in 4-5 color options. Visit the online store for details.
- Can I purchase apparel at the library? No, the library doesn’t keep an inventory of this merchandise on-site. Orders are printed and shipped on demand by Bonfire.com. However, in the library, Cuyahoga Falls Library totes are available for a suggested $5 donation.
- Are there additional designs available? Our current design offerings are “A Place Like No Otter” and “I Otter be Reading”. We may add designs in the future if there is community interest.
