Steve DiPerna
Librarian II, Adult Services Department
Dec. 31, 2021
Today, we congratulate Steve DiPerna on his retirement and thank him for 23 years of service to the Cuyahoga Falls Library. Recently, we threw him a retirement party with Steve-themed trivia, cake, and a photo booth featuring his favorite Avenger, Captain America.
He will be missed by all of us here at the library, especially the Adult Services Department. Here is a few things shared his co-workers shared about Steve:
"Steve always makes staff and patrons feel welcome. His humor…makes everyone smile!"
"Quitter! ...I mean, happy retirement. 😉"
"Steve tells the best stories and has a fantastic sense of humor!"
"I appreciate Steve’s dedication to providing the best customer experience. He sees a need and offers constructive solutions."
What has been your favorite thing about working at the Cuyahoga Falls Library?
First: I've enjoyed working with the many colleagues I've had over the years. I miss many of them. I have also come to know some of the "regular patrons" who come in, with whom I am on a first-name basis.
Second: I enjoy working with the public (most of the time), I enjoyed teaching classes on the Internet, Email. (There was more of a need for these in the early 2000s because many people were still getting familiar with computers.) Later, I taught classes on Word and Excel--which ended when Covid hit. I still enjoy assisting people with computer-related questions at the library.
Third: I have always enjoyed reference work. Finding answers for patrons is like solving a puzzle someone has given me. I enjoy finding out things on-the-fly, that I didn't already know.
What do you like to do in your free time that's not library-related?
I enjoy reading, taking long walks with my wife Katie, learning how to do new things on my computer. Until recently I've gone to the Rec. Center where I live and worked out about three times a week--something I've put on hold for now because of some household projects I've been working on, but will get back to in about two weeks.
What is something you plan to do during your retirement?
Catch up on my reading and get myself into a routine so I don't wind up wasting my retirement years on social media. I want to go through the works of Nietzsche (although I don't agree with him). I'm interested in Christian apologetics, and never really read much Shakespeare or much of the classical Western literature--all of which I would like to catch up on. I might do a little writing, but it will probably only be something I do for myself.
