Phil Shirley
IT Manager
Join us in congratulating Phil Shirley for 18 years of service to the Cuyahoga Falls Library! Phil started in 2003 (the library was still called Taylor Memorial) and has worked here ever since.
For this year's work anniversary Bestow-A-Book, he chose "How to Destroy Surveillance Capitalism" by Cory Doctorow. This is an issue he cares about deeply, and Doctorow is one of his favorite writers.
Here are a few things you probably don't know about Phil.
What's your favorite thing about working here at the library?
I really like my co-workers - they're great people!
What do you like to do in your free time that's not library-related?
Play the bassoon.
Do you have any pets?
We have two standard poodles, Pippa and Poppy. I recently took a few days off for "pup-ternity" leave to help train Poppy, the newest edition to our family.
What's your favorite library tool or one you use frequently?
I am constantly checking the library's mobile app to view my checkouts and place holds. When my wife and I talk about what movies we want to watch, it's easy to open the app and quickly order the DVDs. (If you want to try it out, you can download the library's app for free on Google Play and the App Store.)
