The holidays are upon us. Everyone has events to host and attend, presents to buy or make, and extra relatives and kids to entertain. It's a lot to manage. Here are a couple tips from the Cuyahoga Falls Library to help you simplify and enjoy the holiday season this year.

  • 1. Personalized Gifts & Cards

Everyone loves gifts with a personal touch, but creating personalized items is time-consuming. Especially if you don't have the right experience or equipment

With your library card, you can use the library's Cricut cutters to create holiday cards, ornaments, shirt decals, and more. We only stock essential tools, so please bring the materials (fabric, paper, etc.) required for your project.

Come to the MakerSpace during staffed hours Mon. 3-8 p.m., Wed. 3-8 p.m., or Fri. 1-5 p.m. for an introduction to our Cricut system.

Or sign up for a one-on-one 30-minute training session with the library's technology trainer on Tech Tuesdays between 2-7 p.m. For more information, call us at 330-928-2117 or visit the MakerSpace page

  • 2. Audiobooks for Holiday Travel

Long car rides - especially with kids - can be challenging. But you can keep the "are we there yets" and screen time to a minimum by stocking up on audiobooks.

You can browse and download audiobooks for free with your library card using the Libby and Hoopla apps. Download both for free from the App Store and Google Play. They’re also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easy listening in the car.

If you prefer physical items, the library has a variety of audiobooks for all ages on CDs and Playaways (a small MP3 player, pre-loaded with a book) available to borrow.

  • 3. Games, Activities & Virtual Reality

After dinner, get the whole family to play together. If your crew is tired of the same games from the closet, try before you buy something new by checking out an item from our Library of Things!

You can check out items like portable ping pong sets, 3D maze ball puzzles, 3-D pens, augmented reality games, and more. Stop in and browse the collection for your next gathering, or view the full Library of Things list here.

  • 4. Educational Crafts

If you want a quick and easy project you can do at home (or in the library), sign up for one of our Teen Take & Make projects or stop by the Children's Creation Station on Fridays.

Children's options include weekly Preschool in a Bag and Drop-In Creation Station activities. See our calendar for details.

  • 5. Find Your Quiet Time

Get away from the hustle and bustle of holiday activities (and maybe your visitors...we don't judge!).

You're always welcome just relax in the quiet atmosphere of the library. Come sit by our cozy holiday display by the warm glow of the book tree and read or journal quietly.

From books, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels - you'll find something special for your "you time" while you recharge.

  • BONUS: Life-Size Candyland

After Christmas, bring your family to our Life-Size Candyland! Drop-in any time we're open Dec. 27 - 30.

It's a giant, walkable version of the beloved children's board game. After you finish the course, stay and play some (regular size) board games and stock up on books for the rest of winter break.
